WAILUKU – The county is seeking applications for some 35 volunteer boards and commissions.

Commissions seeking new members include the Maui, Molokai and Lanai planning commissions; the Cultural Resources Commission; the Police Commission and the Board of Variances and Appeals.

Responsibilities include attending meetings, hearing public testimony, reviewing policies and proposals, and making recommendations to the county on various issues.

Commissioners are appointed by the mayor and approved by the Maui County Council. Deadline to apply is Dec. 31.
