November 23, 2015 – NextEra Energyʻs affiliate company Boulevard Associates LLC has just struck a deal with the Hawaiian Homes Commission (part of the Department of Hawaiian Homelands), for a Right-of-Entry permit and a 20-year general lease for about 500 acres in Kahikinui, Maui on Hawaiian Homestead land.

NextEra Energy is currently in negotiations with Hawaiian Electric Company for $4.3 billion. Boulevard Associates LLC seeks to develop a 60-megawatt wind farm and has said that the project is dependent on neither the construction of an undersea cable project between Maui and O`ahu, nor the proposed acquisition of Hawaiian Electric Company by its parent company, NextEra Energy. The final terms and conditions of the lease is yet to be released.
