Does Maui really need the following new projects, now going through the Entitlement Process? Especially since there are so many homes that have been foreclosed and are available at “affordable housing” prices.
- A&B’s Waiale project 2,550 homes (at LUC)
- Spencer’s Maalaea Ohana Kai 1,100 homes (at County’s Housing Dept)
- Kula Ridge + K.R. Mauka 138 homes (Public hearing 9am this Wednesday at Council Chambers)
- Pulelehua (ML&P) 1,100 homes (Public hearing 5pm this Wednesday at Lahaina Civic)
- Kihei R&T Park 432 acres w/ indefinite home count (at LUC)
- Kauhale Lani (below Pukalani) 155 homes (at Planning Dept. seeking zoning)
- Additional Maui Lani lots 581 units
- Waiehu Mauka Townhomes 100 units (at LUC)
- Puukolii Villages (above Kaanapali) 940 homes
- Olowalu Mauka & Makai 1,500 units (at LUC)
Developers are trying to lock in perpetual entitlements despite all the existing entitlements. Ask the Maui County Council and State Land Use Commission to say “no” to these additional projects since they tend not to place adequate time-limits or impact fees on entitled projects.
