Sierra Club etc. File in Liquified Natural Gas Import Docket

The Gas Company, dba Hawai`iGas has filed an Application with the Public Utilities Commission for Phase 1 of 3 for importing Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) into Hawai`i.

Life of the Land, Sierra Club and Blue Planet Foundation have filed Motions to Intervene because of concerns that this will delay the transition from fossil fuel to renewable energy and due to issues associated with LNG production. HECO filed a Motions to Intervene to support Hawai`iGas.

Sierra Club indicated concern that this PUC docket will likely establish the standards by which future imports are reviewed and allowed.  Sierra Club believes someone should advocate for environmental and safety concerns, and make sure the PUC looks after the long-term public interest.
