Senate Bill 580 to protect Hawaii’s reef wildlife from the aquarium trade is now scheduled for a Tuesday hearing in the Senate Judiciary Committee, chaired by Sen. Clayton Hee:  See bill here.

Senate Water & Land Committee revised SB 580 so that the bill gives Maui 2 more marine protected areas. That committee has no Maui members, and the 2 areas were not specified and could be subjected to DLNR scoping–for many years to come.

The hearing is Tuesday, Mar. 1, and testimony is due by Monday at 10:00 AM.
