Directed Growth Plan Mar 1

General Plan Committee Meeting
Council Chambers, 8th Floor
200 S. High St., Wailuku
Thursday   1:30pm until 4:30pm

The General Plan Committee is currently reviewing and making decisions on THE MOST CRITICAL chapter of the Maui Island Plan (Directed Growth Plan, Chapter 8). The Direct Growth Plan chapter sets policy on managing Maui’s growth and development for the next 20 years, 2010-2030.

SHARE YOUR VOICE & SHARE YOUR VISION!
Decisions are being made that will affect our fragile environmental resources, open spaces, coral reefs, beaches, shorelines, mountain ranges, agricultural lifestyles, diversified farming, and small town charm. Decisions are being made that could exponentially increase growth & development. Public testimony is critical! NOW is the time to share your voice & vision on the future of our ‘aina.

WHAT IS A DIRECTED GROWTH PLAN?
A Directed Growth Plan establishes growth areas where future growth is desired by the community. It establishes growth boundaries to manage and direct growth to the most appropriate areas.

This is the FIRST TIME the County has developed a Directed Growth Plan (although it has been mandated to do so since 1991). It makes development more predictable for everyone, including County service and infrastructure providers. This will help reduce development costs, provide more affordable housing, and lower taxes to the public.
