Panel to Discuss Recent Monk Seal Attacks

On Sunday, January 8th DLNR Chairman Bill Ailā, Moloka`i resident Walter Ritte, Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale National Marine Sanctuary Co-manager Elia Herman and Nā Mea Hulu Project Director Kehaulani Watson will participate in a panel on the recent monk seal attacks as part of Nā `Ōiwi `Ōlino: People Seeking Wisdom.   The show will air on FM 105.1 KINE.  Nā `Ōiwi `Ōlino: People Seeking Wisdom begins at 8:00 am, the panel is scheduled to air at 8:30 am.  The show also airs online at www.naoiwiolino.com where you can listen live or on demand.  

Preliminary information about a reward and new tip line will be provided during the show.  

Anyone with information about the deaths or are witness to abuse or harassment of Hawaiian monk seals is asked to call NOAA at 800-853-1964 or DLNR at (808) 873-3990 .

People who may be having trouble with monk seals getting into fishing gear or are being otherwise disturbed by seals while engaging in ocean activites are encouraged to report the animals.
