The Planning Commission voted to give A&B Properties a special management area permit for Maui Business Park II in Kahului. Conditions include adding a two-lane road with sidewalks and a storm water treatment system.
The expansion of the mixed-use, light-industrial park will be located on two properties, one behind Kmart and Costco and the other at the rear of Walmart and Home Depot. Included is the Costco gas station.
Maui Business Park II will occupy 179 acres on either side Hana Highway. The business park would run along the edge of developed land from east of Haleakala Highway to west of Puunene Avenue.
The North Project Area on 38.2 acres will consist of 32 lots. The $7 million project would likely begin this June, according to A&B’s Grant Chun.
The South Project Area consists of 140.8 acres and may start in September.
In 2004, the state Land Use Commission approved the land’s redesignation from agriculture to commercial, and the Maui County Council changed its zoning to light industrial that same year.
A&B officials said the state has plans to build an airport bypass road in the area.
